Ergonomic Tip of the Week: Can You Say “Wrist Rest” 10 Times, Really Fast?

Use wrist rests sparingly! Any pressure placed on the wrist rest or desk while typing can put a kink in the carpel tunnels (if you read last week’s ergonomic tip, you know what these are).  Use the wrist rest only during REST and float your wrists while typing and mousing.  The picture below shows how to properly align your wrist with no pressure on the underside.  The arrows are showing the gap between your wrists and the keyboard.  Keyboard trays are an excellent tool to help achieve this.  Most keyboard trays have settings that allow you to place the keyboard in a “negative tilt” which keeps wrists straight rather than bent.  If you don’t have a keyboard tray, then slightly elevate your wrists.
