New, Promising Cholesterol Medications, Especially for Those Not Tolerating Statins

Here’s some good news for those people who cannot tolerate statins or those who need more than statins to reduce cholesterol enough to be safe. New types of cholesterol lowering medications, known as RNAi therapy or PCSK9 inhibitors therapy, have been shown to reduce levels of LDL, many by fifty percent, for the majority of patients in the study with only two injections over six months.

The downside to these medications is that they’re very new, so all the side effects may not be clear yet. They are also very expensive, so it’s quite possible insurance will not cover all of the cost.
