Valley Expands Cancer Services with Opening of New High Risk Screening & Genetic Testing Clinic

On July 25, Valley opened the High Risk Screening and Genetic Testing Clinic with services by new provider, Kristine M. King, MD. Patients who may be considered for cancer genetic services include those with:

§  Personal history of premenopausal breast cancer
§  Personal history of ovarian cancer at any age
§  Personal history of colon cancer prior to age 50
§  Family history of any of the above
Initial appointments are 60 minutes and include history gathering, pedigree analysis, counseling, and discussion of appropriate testing. If patients choose to have testing, they will have a follow up appointment for in-person results disclosure. All patients will be provided with a personalized risk assessment and recommendations for follow up.
About Dr. King. Dr. King is a South King County native who is happy to be back in her home town after nearly 14 years away. Prior to joining Valley, Dr. King was in private practice. She earned her medical degree from Colombia University, then completed an OB/GYN residency at Tufts University and a Medical Genetics residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. King’s main interest is in hereditary cancer syndromes—especially presymptomatic genetic testing—which can empower patients to undertake risk-reduction interventions.
