Ergonomic Tip of the Week: Body Mechanics – No Oil Changes Required

When lifting, no matter what the item is, make sure to use proper body mechanics.  Avoid pushing, pulling, or lifting items that are below your waist or above your shoulders; the safe lifting zone is between those areas and this is where we are strongest. When lifting in the safe zone your body is able to use its core muscles to assist with the lifting. If you don’t lift in the safe zone you are putting your shoulders and lower back at risk of injury. Another important thing to remember when lifting is to keep the item close to your body and never lift with outstretched arms.
