Still on the fence about getting vaccinated? Mike Hori, MD, Infection Prevention Specialist, Lauren Steele and Javier Bobadilla of Valley’s Safety Office discuss what we know about the Pfizer, Moderna and J&J vaccines, and what we’re still learning. Find what the experts know about the vaccine’s risk for pre-existing conditions, whether you can get COVID-19 after vaccination, and if it affects our DNA or fertility.
What’s the verdict? The mRNA vaccine is remarkably safe, and they recommend all get vaccinated. While allergic or adverse reactions are possible for any vaccine, these reactions are treatable. Getting severe COVID-19 disease is the greater risk, possibly resulting in hospitalization or death. This vaccine is the solution to saving lives and getting back to normal faster.

Thanks!
Thank you for your question. There is little to no evidence that vaccine priming is an issue for the general public as similar to other vaccines widely available, this vaccine has now been received by millions and the data available suggests that the COVID-19 vaccine is effective at preventing illness from the coronavirus, and keeping those who do get a breakthrough infection out of the hospital. If you have a specific concern regarding a previously existing condition, your primary provider should be able to discuss a vaccination plan with you depending on your care needs.
