Partners in HOPE: Valley Medical Center and Valley Girls & Guys United in Supporting Cancer Patients in South King County

For more than a decade, we have partnered with local non-profit Valley Girls & Guys in support of cancer care in our community. From raising awareness on the importance of screening mammograms and funding them for those in need, to bringing brachytherapy to South King County, providing warm blankets for cancer patients undergoing treatment, and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer services at Valley (including a recent $1.8 million donation toward our future Cancer Center) we are grateful to not only call them supporters, but also great friends to our organization.

Liz Nolan, Valley’s Chief Communications & Marketing Officer, says, “Valley Girls & Guys are tireless advocates for cancer patients and their families right here in our own backyard. Many in the VGG family are patients and loved ones, caregivers and supporters, and all have been impacted by cancer in some way. At Valley, we are humbled by their support and so very thankful to witness the positive ripple effects every single day. We send a heartfelt thank you to Valley Girls & Guys for their leadership and for being the HOPE for Valley and the patients we care for.”

Funds raised by Valley Girls & Guys have directly supported Valley Medical Center patients through several initiatives, including:

  • Patient Assistance: The HOPE (Helping Oncology Patients with Everything) Patient Assistance Fund, which helps cover living expenses many cancer patients struggle with, like rent or gas to get to treatment.
  • Trapper & Samantha Cancer Resource Cart: Named for two Valley Girls & Guys team members who were impacted by care received at Valley, the cart travels through Valley’s Infusion Center with comfort items and information to make patients’ cancer journeys a bit easier.
  • Acute Symptom Management Clinic ARNP: A mini emergency department embedded within Valley’s Oncology Clinic, providing same-day and on-site treatment for urgent needs of cancer patients—protecting fragile immune systems.
  • Research Support: Funding for a half-time radiation oncology research coordinator position and a clinical trial refrigerator.
  • Treatments: Funding for SaviScout breast localization and surgical guidance system, and the low-dose brachytherapy prostate program.
