Following a unanimous vote by the Valley Board to offer her the position, Jeannine Grinnell has now been named Valley Medical Center’s Chief Executive Officer, our first new CEO in 37 years and the first female CEO in Valley’s history. Since January 2021, Grinnell has served both as Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Grinnell is a 20-year veteran at Valley. A Certified Public Accountant with a Master of Hospital Administration degree, she rose through finance and treasury positions to serve as Chief Financial Officer and Superintendent of Public Hospital District No. 1.

“Jeannine has served with distinction in leadership roles at Valley Medical Center,” says Lisa Brandenburg, president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics, and University of Washington vice president for medical affairs. “With her appointment as CEO, the residents of South King County can be confident that Valley will continue to provide outstanding primary and specialty care at its hospital and clinics.”

Donna Russell, chair of the Board of Trustees, expresses her support, saying “Jeannine has thoroughly demonstrated her leadership strengths and resolve throughout the pandemic. She is a smart, accomplished leader who earns the respect and trust of everyone with whom she works.”

“At Valley, our mission is ‘caring for our community like family’ and Jeannine embodies this in every way,” lauds Jim Griggs, president of the Board of Commissioners. “She truly cares about helping people and is compassionate and committed to Valley and the residents of our community. Jeannine has successfully navigated Valley through some of the toughest times in healthcare with great empathy, decisiveness, integrity and courage,”

When asked how she feels about her new role, Grinnell says, “I am humbled by the opportunity and so proud of this organization. Like so many of our staff, I feel passionate about what we do and who we are: dedicated to taking care of our community like family. I am honored to have served this community for two decades, and to have been selected to lead Valley Medical Center and foster our incredibly special culture into the future.”

I was employed by VMC just over a decade ago as the first neurology nurse practitioner and have since been a patient there. I recognized the need for new leadership when I left their employment and look forward to seeing improvements made by Ms. Ginnell’s leadership. I would he happy to serve as one of your board members.
