“I love doing research that directly answers the everyday questions we face in taking care of the 40 types of epilepsy and 10 types of seizures,” says Neurologist David Vossler, M.D. “I’m excited every day about the new discoveries and how they make the lives of my patients better. Nothing makes me happier than when we make a hard-to-treat case seizure free with no side effects. The greatest reward for me is the gratitude of my patients with epilepsy when I’ve changed their life for the better.”
Dr. Vossler is the Medical Director of The Neuroscience Institute and a national authority on epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. Dr. Vossler is also a Clinical Professor of Neurology at UW and incoming Chair of the Treatments Committee for the American Epilepsy Society. In addition, Dr. Vossler is a member of the Executive Council of the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation Northwest and Vice President of the Washington State Neurology Society.
Dr. Vossler holds his Doctor of Medicine degree, cum laude from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude from University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He completed his Neurology Residency at Boston University in 1987. He completed an additional Fellowship in Clinical Neuro-physiology in 1989 at University of Washington.
In his personal time, he is an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, conducts epilepsy research and, with his wife, raises four children. “All of the research work, committee work and teaching I do is in my spare time. I’m a busy clinician. People ask why I don’t do more hobbies, but I tell them this is my calling and my hobby. I love it. But, I’m not totally dull,” he adds. “I do enjoy hiking, travel, motorcycle touring, skiing, bicycling and above all spending time with my family.”
* The 2016 Seattle Met Top Doctors survey polled doctors, nurses and physician assistants across King, Snohomish, Kitsap and Pierce counties, asking “If you or a loved one needed medical care, whom would you choose?” Voters nominated their peers based on the provider’s level of experience and competency within their specialty, rapport with patients – including patient satisfaction and compliance with care recommendations – and ability to work effectively with colleagues across specialties to deliver the best care for patients.
