Valley Proudly Raises the Pan-African Flag in Honor of Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, Valley proudly raises the Pan-African flag as a symbol of our unwavering commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging. This month, we reflect on the incredible contributions of the Black community, past and present, and the importance of continuing the fight for justice and equity.

At our ceremony, we were honored by the powerful words of Board President Carol Barber, who reminded us of the significance of Black History Month in recognizing the achievements of African Americans and the progress we must continue to make in pursuit of a more inclusive society. We were also moved by an original poem, “Echoes of Black Brilliance,” written and shared by Ronica Dennis, Manager of our Patient Resource Center. Her words serve as a reminder that Black history is a tapestry of resilience, brilliance, and hope. A video of the ceremony can be found below Ronica’s poem.

Echoes of Black Brilliance
by Ronica Dennis
In the roots of struggle, deep and strong,
Grows a legacy of righting wrong.
From chains of sorrow to freedom’s light,
The soul of a people burns ever bright.

Dreamers and doers, their courage bold,
Stories of triumph forever told.
Harriet’s whispers through the night,
King’s dream igniting the world’s sight.

From the fields of cotton to the courts of law,
Breaking barriers no one foresaw.
Artists, scholars, voices that sing,
Building bridges with every string.

Black history lives in every heart,
A tapestry woven, each thread a part.
A past that teaches, a future that inspires,
Lit by the glow of ancestral fires.

So, celebrate the journey, the truth, the fight,
Honor the shades of resilient light.
For Black history is history, vast and true,
The story of me, the story of you.
