Dr. Rob Veith, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery, is traveling this week, January 29, 2010, to Haiti to help in the care of a country devastated by its recent earthquake. Dr. Veith is president of Prosthetics Outreach and has traveled to Viet Nam, Bangladesh, and many other countries, providing care for those in need over the last decade.
Because of the acute need for surgeons, specifically those familiar with amputation, Dr. Veith is taking with him medical supplies and autoclaves he purchased, and will be accompanied by Dr. Loie Gelman from Valley Orthopedic Ambulatory Surgery Center, who is an anesthesiologist.
We will post updates on this blog of Dr. Veith’s experience in Haiti to keep everyone informed of his humanitarian efforts. I encourage all of you who read this to donate money to the Haitian Relief Fund, either through the Clinton Bush fund or the Red Cross to help with this massive rebuilding effort.
