Valley Cancer Services Deemed “An Excellent Accredited Cancer Program” by Commission on Cancer

We are excited to announce that Valley’s Cancer Services program successfully achieved three-year re-accreditation status from the Commission on Cancer (CoC).  We were found to be compliant in all 36 standards.

In the words of the CoC, “This is an excellent accredited cancer program that is dedicated to addressing the burden of cancer in a large service area near Seattle. It is able to meet this objective through a strong leadership structure that functions well and has a good working relationship with the hospital administration to continuously evaluate and develop its oncology service line as a CoC accredited cancer program.”

Over the past three years, the Cancer Services program has achieved many notable accomplishments.

The Radiation Oncology Clinic successfully installed a second Truebeam linear accelerator. This project took approximately 10 months. During this time, the team operated off one machine with record high patient volumes in which they maintained their high-quality care and patient experience.

Phase 1 of Valley’s new Cancer Center, slated to open in early 2025, includes a 41-bay infusion center, compounding pharmacy, reception and fast track area, and the Trapper & Samantha Wellbeing Support Center. The Infusion Center was awarded the SPEAK UP award by the Washington Patient Safety Coalition (WPSC) for the team’s outstanding commitment to patient safety. Additionally, the Infusion Center received the ASCENDING ACHIEVERS award from Valley’s Patient Experience team in recognition of their continued ascent in patient experience metrics over the past 12 months.

The Breast Center continued to maintain accreditation through the FDA and the American College of Radiology (ACR), and holds the distinguished title of Breast Center of Excellence. They are accredited in Mammography, Stereotactic Biopsy, Breast Ultrasound, and Ultrasound Guided Biopsy.

The High-Risk Screening and Genetics Clinic continues to focus on increased prevention and early detection for those who may be at higher risk for developing cancer. Their highly skilled nurse practitioners provide positive breast biopsy results and start patients on their journey towards wellness with education and guidance related to their cancer care plan.

The Medical and Gynecologic Oncology Clinic expanded its Navigation program to provide proactive and early detection of barriers to care and streamlining start to treatment.  They also cared for record high patient volumes with high quality care and patient experience.

Valley achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), recognizing two of the Gynecologic Oncologists as Surgeons of Excellence.  This recognition highlights their commitment to delivering the highest standard of care to their patients.

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with a serious illness—it is appropriate at any age, any stage, and is provided alongside curative treatment. Palliative care has been helping patients understand the disease trajectory, symptom management, advance care planning, and understanding the patients’ goals of care. Early palliative care referral has led to reduction in inpatient stays and fewer ED visits.
