Valley Medical Center is dedicated to making your healthcare experience as convenient as possible and helping you get the care you need. We’re excited to share that many appointments for diagnostic services at Valley’s Breast Center can now be scheduled online through MyChart. This includes services ordered by a provider for DEXA scans, diagnostic mammograms, and/or diagnostic ultrasounds.
The process is simple: once your provider orders the necessary service, you may receive a notification in your MyChart account. You’ll find a prompt to “Schedule Now” on the MyChart home page. You’ll then be able to view available time slots for your mammogram, ultrasound, or DEXA scan and choose the one that works best for you. Please note: some appointments won’t be eligible for MyChart scheduling and will still require calling the Breast Center to schedule.
What is a DEXA scan?
Also called a bone density scan, a DEXA scan is an imaging study that measures bone density (strength). DEXA scan results can provide helpful details about your risk for osteoporosis (bone loss) and fractures (bone breaks). DEXA scans are available at Valley’s Breast Center with a physician referral and can be scheduled through MyChart. Learn more about how to schedule your DEXA scan on MyChart here.
What is a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound?
A diagnostic mammogram uses low-dose X-rays to take detailed pictures of the breast. It is often used when there are signs like lumps, pain, or unusual results from a screening mammogram. An ultrasound uses sound waves to make pictures of the breast, without using radiation. It is usually done to look more closely at areas that were found on a mammogram or during a physical exam.
