Are You Truly Hungry?

Eating out of simple boredom, tiredness, anxiety or other emotional reasons can lead to unnecessary calories and unnecessary weight gain. Gauge your true hunger using these tips:

  • A growling, rumbling, gnawing or hunger pang sensation in your stomach
  • Low energy, or feeling weak
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • A mild headache
  • Irritability

If you find yourself eating when you are experiencing an emotion besides hunger, such as boredom or anxiety, try to find a non-eating activity to do instead. You may find a quick walk or phone call with a friend helps you feel better.
